Who is Peter May?

Good question..

Peter May is a marketing communications professional with the ability to write, design and produce highly successful promotional programs. He is, first and foremost, a writer. Although he was born in the UK, Peter is as Yankee as possible, considering he lives in the deep south.

Allow me to switch to the first person, if I may.

My career includes marketing management positions with large and small companies; private and public companies and a couple of small companies that became larger ones while I was there. As a marketing executive, I created and executed business-to-business (B2B) promotional and corporate communications programs for providers of highly technical products.

I also have a significant amount of experience in consumer (B2C) marketing. The automotive aftermarket was the very first industry within which I worked. I began my career as a copywriter for a carburetor company (Holley). Needless to say, that was a while back. My last "real" job (not freelancing) was as marketing communications director for Lund International, a manufacturer of auto and truck accessories. So, at the moment, the car business bookends my work history.

In the past two years, I have been fortunate to work in the bicycling industry. Specifically, I have written copy and handled public relations work for Blue Competition Cycles. Working with Blue has given me the opportunity to become involved in cycling, which is a passion of mine.

I believe my work in consumer marketing serves as a reminder that the people to whom you sell business solutions are also consumers. It is an error to leave your creativity and humor behind when creating B2B programs.

Healthcare has been a particular focus of mine. In all, I have nearly ten years of experience marketing technology and data management solutions to providers and payers. At TechRx, I managed all marketing programs as we grew the company from a boutique custom software developer for mail order pharmacies into the largest provider of pharmacy solutions in North America. I believe the success of TechRx was based on taking a "consumer-like" approach to B2B marketing. Our branding was designed to make a new solution less threatening and create instant brand awareness.

When we introduced our new solution at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) annual convention, we created a sensation. Although we did not have the largest booth, virtually nobody left that event not knowing about TechRx and our unique pharmacy management solution.

This is the kind of creative approach I bring to my work. Whether it's high end racing bikes or electrical power distribution products, I strive to create messaging that is simple, concise and effective. Messaging that clearly communicates benefits to a variety of target audiences.
